Now that’s enough of what we looked for – let’s see what our reviewer actually had to say about the thing, yeah?

Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer: Use

Now, this is by far the most important part of any kitchen gadget. The easier it is to use, the better – and that goes for cleaning as well as general use. Our reviewer had quite a bit to say about it so far, so let’s not waste any more time!

General Use & Application

This section is vital for a kitchen gadget such as this because it needs to be easier than just using a pot to steam food. After all, if it’s harder to use than just a pot and pan, what’s the point?

Luckily, our reviewer found that it was quite easy to use. It’s assembled in a manner that allows you to easily remove each tier, and they’re all labelled to ensure you know which layer each is. Add in the fact that the instruction manual actually gives tips on how to cook various foods, and this is a breeze to use. Simply add water and food and bam! You’re cooking.

Speaking of food, our reviewer cooked quite a bit of it while reviewing this thing. She cooked everything from carrots and swede (rutabaga for you Yanks) to rice, eggs, and potatoes – each cut to roughly one square inch. Each type of food came out perfectly cooked within (at most) 35 minutes. It’s worth noting that the steamer also claims to be able to cook fish – though our reviewer couldn’t get her hands on any in time for the review.

Perhaps the best thing our reviewer found with this device was its incredible ease of use. Her exact words were that she loved not needing to worry about watching a pan – she could just put it all in and continue with her day.

Executive Summary: Our reviewer quite enjoyed using the Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer. It’s highly versatile and incredibly easy to use. She cooked everything from veggies to rice and eggs, each coming out perfectly cooked and in a timely manner. While the instructions claim that this can cook fish, we were unable to test thanks (all the fish was sold out, I’m sorry!)

Cleaning the food steamer

And now the other vital part of any kitchen gadget – cleaning. If it’s hard to clean, we generally don’t recommend a product, because that’s not only a pain but a food hazard!

Fortunately, our reviewer found that the Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer is incredibly simple to clean. This is, in large part, due to the fact that each tier breaks down and comes out quite easily. This means you can simply pop them apart and give them a quick scrub with soap and water.

She did note that because you’re steaming food, there’s very little grease leftover – this helps the cleaning quite a bit. Because there’s no oil to harden (or straight up turn to hardened carbon), this means you won’t need to scrub really at all. It’s just a quick little wipe down and sanitisation, rather than a whole scrubbing process.

Executive Summary: The Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer is incredibly easy to clean. It requires three simple steps – disassemble, soak/scrub, dry. And as there’s no grease needed to steam food, you don’t generally need to worry about scrubbing burnt food or carbon out of the device (assuming you don’t forget you put food in.

No this isn’t the voice of experience speaking… Don’t ask me about it…

Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer: Technical

And now we get to the absolutely thrilling section of this review – you know, the nitty-gritty technical details like batteries, weight, and dimensions. Let’s get right into things.

Dimensions & Capacity

Storage condensed position

Okay – let’s just get right into it. The faster we’re through this section, the faster you can get to saving kittens stuck in trees, helping old ladies cross the street, you know, whatever a star like yourself does in your free time…

First up is the nitty-gritty – numbers. Our reviewer measured out the dimensions of the Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer:

  • Height (Full Steamer): 16 inches (40.6 cm)
  • Length (Full Steamer): 12.2 inches (30.9 cm)
  • Depth (Full Steamer): 7 inches (17.8 cm)
  • Height (Disassembled): 4.5 inches – base (11.4 cm)

As for capacity, it can hold a combined 9 litres of food. While this may seem like quite a bit, our reviewer noted that for her family of two, the combination of types of veg, rice, and eggs that they cooked in that space was enough for one large meal for two. Should you have a family of 3-4, she was fairly confident that you’d need to either cook in batches or opt for a larger steamer.

Unless, that is, you’re not big eaters. If you tend to stick to very specific portion sizes, this is likely perfect for you – especially if you’re a health nut.

Add in that the containers can be condensed and stacked into one small package, and this is also quite simple to store when needed, making it great for those limited on space.

Executive Summary: Our reviewer found that the Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer was relatively large when assembled, but that it breaks down to a reasonable size. This allows easy storage and cleaning, as well as providing a decent amount of space for cooking. It’s perfect for a large meal for two, though will likely struggle to feed a larger family in one session of cooking.

And finally, we’re in the features section of the review. This is where we discuss what sets this particular steamer apart from the competition other than ease of use, cleaning, and storage.

The two major features that this (rather basic) steamer boasts are a timer and a visible water gauge. The former allows you to ensure you’re cooking food properly without needing to babysit, while the latter allows you to easily monitor water levels and avoid it starting to cook a dry surface (which is… bad, to say the least).

The timer is quite easy to use, going up to an hour. It makes an audible ticking sound when on, which could be annoying for some, though our reviewer had no issues with it. Once finished, the notification (a “ding”) is loud enough to be heard throughout a small-to-mid-sized home.

As for the water gauge, the instructions clearly instruct on how to fill up the steamer and the device itself clearly shows specific water levels. This allows you to fill it without the hassle of needing to measure out water in a separate container.

Executive Summary: While the Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer is somewhat barebones in terms of features, the few that it does have are quite handy. The timer is effective and loud enough to hear when finished (though it does make a somewhat irritating ticking sound), and the water gauge cuts out the need to measure water with each use.

Overall, our reviewer found that the Morphy Richards 3-Tier Food Steamer is easy to use, a breeze to clean, and generally simple to store. While its features are somewhat lacking in terms of extras, those that it does have (a timer and water gauge) are quite well-done and extremely handy. If you need a small-ish, compact steamer to feed a small family, this is great – though larger families will likely need something bigger.
