Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble: The Ruling

The Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble is a highly effective, extremely efficient, and modern device. While it does have a bit of a learning curve, once you get the hang of its numerous features, you’ll have an incredibly easy time getting any number of tasks done with this bad boy. Let’s see why our reviewer was such a big fan!

Product Testing & Comparison

Our reviewer used a specific set of guidelines to rank each and every bit of this device to ensure the most accurate testing possible. She examined:

  • Use
    • Ease of Use
    • Quality of Washing
    • Noise, Spin Speed, & Longevity
  • Technical
    • Dimensions, Power, & Energy Efficiency
    • Features

Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble: Use

This is the really important stuff for day-to-day use. We’re talking about how easy it is to use, how well it does its job, and a few other things like speed, noise, and lifespan. There’s a lot to cover here, so let’s not waste more time.

Ease of Use

First up is the ease of use. This was our reviewer’s first washing machine review, which is actually quite nice, contrary to what you may think. That’s because it means she’s coming at it as a standard user, rather than someone that’s used numerous, similar machines in the past.

While she found that it was generally easy to use, she did have a few notes. As it’s incredibly feature-rich, it’s a bit hard to learn at first. If you’re just going to be doing a standard wash, it’s pretty straightforward, but when you try to learn the features, the manual is both handy and, honestly, required.

What she found to be quite handy though, was the app. Its Smart Check feature (pictured above) is fantastic for troubleshooting. Our reviewer was able to get it to pinpoint something as small as a slightly ajar door in a matter of seconds. All in all, the app is incredibly helpful for checking on your laundry, making adjustments, and for finding issues, should they occur.

Our reviewer had no issues with the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble for the duration of its review.

Executive Summary: Our reviewer found the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble to be quite feature-rich. While some of the features make it easier to use, others did increase the learning curve. Overall, it’s a modern (and therefore more complicated) washer than the ones you likely grew up with, but it’s very useful once you learn its finer points.

Quality of Washing

In order to test the quality of stain removal for the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble, our reviewer purposefully stained a white t-shirt with the following:

  1. Red wine
  2. Chocolate
  3. Hot Cocoa
  4. Tea
  5. Coffee
  6. Biro ink
  7. Felt-tipped pen ink

Without any stain remover added to the load, numbers 1, 3, and 5 were mostly removed, with a slightly visible remnant of the original stain. Numbers 2, 4, 6, and 7, on the other hand, were still very much stained.

Look below for some handy photos!

Once stain remover was added to the load, the t-shirt only had biro ink and felt-tip pen stains left over, with the latter being barely noticeable.

Our reviewer used Fairy Non Bio and Fairy fabric softener during the whole testing process, which we actually reviewed in the link right above!

When used with more heavy-duty detergents (which are coincidentally not good for those with allergies), the washer performed quite well, cleaning clothes effectively and quickly. It generally took less than an hour (depending on the settings and what was being washed), and resulted in clothes that were only slightly damp, with not a single drop of water coming out of clothes that were wrung out.

And as for capacity, the 8 kg drum can fit a rather large load. Our reviewer was able to fit:

  • 2 pairs of trousers
  • 5 pairs boxers
  • 10 pairs women’s underwear
  • 1 thick hoodie
  • 9 pairs of socks
  • 2 tea towels
  • 1 king size fitted sheet

And with room to spare, that’s a pretty big load.

Executive Summary: Our reviewer quite liked the efficiency of the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble. It has a large capacity, fully wrings out clothing to improve drying speed, and does all of it while effectively cleaning the clothing inside within an hour.

Noise, Spin Speed, & Longevity

Right below, you’ll see a video of the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble while running to get an idea of how loud it runs.

Mid-load decibel reading

As you can tell, it generally remains between 35-45 decibels (at one point going as high as 54.2), which is surprisingly quiet!

And for the remainder of this section, we’re talking spin speed and longevity.

This washer’s spin speed varies, with settings of 400, 800, 1200, and 1400 RPM, depending on your needs.

As for durability, our reviewer found that the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble is quite sturdy. It’s made from quality materials that haven’t so much as scratched yet and features a 10-year warranty included with the manual. This ensures that it will last you for quite a long time, regardless of technical issues (of which we found none).

Executive Summary: Our reviewer found the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble to be a long-lasting, durable, and surprisingly quiet running noise with a variety of spin speeds. The addition of a 10-year warranty ensures this will last you for years to come.

Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble: Technical

And now we get to the fun bits – the nitty-gritty numbers. Okay, while it may not be the most page-turning section, it’s vital to ensure you get the most out of this thing, and perhaps more importantly, ensure that you feel you’ve gotten your money’s worth. Let’s get right into it.

Dimensions, Power, & Energy Efficiency

The Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble is a pretty reasonably sized washing machine. Look below for a quick rundown of its size, power, energy efficiency, and durability:

  • Dimensions (H x W x D):
  • Power Source: Corded electric
  • Energy Class: B*

Overall, our reviewer found this to be relatively compact, though she noted that it wouldn’t fit under a lowered worktop (such as those in retirement homes), it fits snugly in her available space.

To test out durability in terms of the actual drum, she ran a pair of trainers with hard soles through the machine. While she highly recommends that you don’t do this, it came out without any damage and has performed the same since. It uses 116 kWh annually, consuming (on average) 8,100 litres of water. The estimated annual energy cost is £17.86 (based on £15.40 per energy unit).

*Editor’s Note: While the overall energy class of this machine is B-rated, there is a bit of variation here. It’s been rated between A and G, with the pre-2021 energy class rework rating being a fantastic A++.

Executive Summary: While somewhat tall, the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble is relatively compact, energy and water-efficient, and durable, making it a great choice, especially for it low asking price.

Features

Finish tune

And finally, the actually fun stuff. What does the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble offer to set itself apart from the competition?

As we’ve already discussed the app above, I’ll leave it out of this section – though it did add a lot of bonus points into the technical category overall. I just feel that it would be a waste of your time to reiterate.

Beyond an app, this washing machine comes with the following features:

  • LED display
  • Anti-allergy setting
  • Bubble soak (helps treat stains)
  • Digital inverter motor (long-lasting, energy efficient, and quiet)
  • Drum clean function
  • Smart check (app)
  • Hygeine steam
  • Child lock
  • Auto-off

Above, you’ll see a video of the tune it plays when finished, and below, you can see the LED display in action.

Conclusion

Our reviewer was quite a fan of the Samsung Series 5 Ecobubble. It’s affordable, highly energy-efficient, and has a number of quite modern features that will make your life easier – once you understand how to use them. The addition of a highly useful app and a 10-year warranty further add value to this already great deal.
